Bright lemons and oranges have been making their debut on the red carpet.  Although these looks have yet to transition to streetwear, what do you think of the newest it hue in Hollywood?

I'm completely on-board with Lucy, Emily and Victoria's frocks, but Drew's Jill Sanders dress with the gathered hem looks too much like a fabric bag for me.  Thoughts?  Would you incorporate this shade into your everyday style?  Or are you holding out for warmer weather before stepping out in orange?

2011's IT color

So long turquoise, HELLO honeysuckle! 

That's right, Pantone annouced the IT color for 2011 this week and it's none other than a gorgeous pinkish-red (looks like my wedding was right on trend!).  According to Pantone, Honeysuckle is:

A Color for All Seasons. Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.

I have to say, I'm a huge fan.  It's bright, vibrant and fun!  As for how to wear honeysuckle?  Go for bright, single pieces or pair a bright piece with neutrals.

how to wear: lace

Although black lace was technically last fall's major trend, it's continuing its reign this fall and well into winter - inviting along its counterpart, white lace!  The red carpet has been overcome with lace frocks lately and I can't say I mind!  Adding a small amount of lace to any outfit instantly adds a feminine factor while keeping the look edgy and modern.

Of course, most of us aren't rocking designer dresses on a daily basis.  Luckily there are some budget-friendly options out there.  If you're headed to a holiday party, try upping the glam on your LBD with this option from Macys for only $26:

Or for a casual night, grab this black lace, military-inspired shirt from Express and pair with black skinny jeans and flats:

How to wear lace without looking like you've been in granny's doily stash:

1) Pair lace options with solid pieces to keep the look modern and edgy.  If you're sporting an all-lace dress, pair it with simple black booties and a black blazer. 

2) Go for finer patterned lace.  Large, chunky lace patterns tend to look very dated and matronly.

3) Make sure a full laced dress is LINED!  We've all seen those see-through , show-your-undies dresses.  Unless your name is Emma Watson, it's really not a good look.

4) Keep jewelry to a minimum.  Throw on a simple bangle or studs.  Long necklaces or busy accessories clash and distract when paired with lace.  If your jewelry or purse is the item draped in lace, then keep your outfit basic and neutral so the lace pattern will pop.

5) LESS IS MORE when it comes to lace!  One lace option is enough for an outfit whether it is a dress, top or shoes.

how to wear: black and navy

Black is the new navy and navy is the new black.  At least in my world.  Lately, I’ve been trying to lean away from my go-to black pieces and substitute with navy for a different twist.  Everyone remembers hearing at some point or another that it is not okay to wear black and navy together.  But I say, why can’t they be worn in harmony? 

If Kate Hudson, Audrina Patridge and Amanda Seyfried can pull it off so flawlessly then so can I!

Really it comes down to one thing: black and navy are both considered neutral colors.  So they can be mixed and matched and still look chic! 

How to wear black and navy together:

1)      Have at least one main piece that’s black and one main piece that’s navy.  Don’t just throw on a navy accessory with a black dress.  In order to mix the unmixable colors, it needs to look intentional.

2)     If you want to add in accent colors, keep them neutral – cream, white and grey are all great additions.  Or play with adding stripes or a pattern!

3)     Make sure that the navy piece you're wearing is obviously navy, and not one of those "Is this navy or black?" things in your closet.  If it’s teetering on the line, save it for an all navy day.
